In the end, this was a fun read and I was happy to have read it. The world building was really cool and unique. The main character was basically a cardboard robot and I feel like I kept hoping for a deeper/subtler message than just socialism is good, capitalism is bad. But I did have fun, especially in the last 100 pages.

This book literally blew my mind! The first third starts off a little slow, but that's mostly due to Banks' ability to adapt his tone so expertly to the feelings of the protagonist. I loved the premise and after finishing that last paragraph I'm already dying for a reread. Definitely stick it out though the first part- you'll be glad you did!

Did this one as an audio book, don't know if I would have liked it as much if I had read it.
