This book is everything I love in a picture book - the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous (ink drawings colored digitally), I could spend hours getting lost in each page; and the story feels like coming home. It honors two lineages, two cultural interpretations of dragons, and encourages the reader to hold both as equally true and that to have both is a blessing. It is a compelling story of belonging, family, fantasy, and adventure.

As Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop says, it is important for children to have windows and mirrors. This book is a perfect mirror for our biracial son and a window into our life for many others. Representation maters! The art is beautiful and the story of the two wise women and the dragon folklore is a very moving allegory for being from two different cultural backgrounds. I will admit I cried the first time I read it.

A gorgeous book! Lushly illustrated & the sweetest allegory for a mixed race/culture child.
