I think I'm waiting to add a star rating to this until I think longer, but I worry that KR has too many publishing obligations at this time. I was underwhelmed by both stories included in this book (the second was better than the first). They unfolded far too quickly and there was zero chemistry of intrigue. The first was a surprise-baby, and I don't immediately discount that trope but there was nothing to endear either MC to me and I didn't get the interest in the MMC at all. The second one was more enjoyable but still lacked the chemistry that I generally expect from Katee. I will always pick up her books but I wanted more from this.

Let me preface this by saying I love Katee Robert so much. I am HERE for her fantasy stuff. All of it.
That being said…. I’m not a straight romance reader and that is becoming glaringly obvious to me. I didn’t love the first story build up but I did love the ending. Funnily enough, I enjoyed the build up of the second story more than the final product. I enjoyed the stories well enough, they just needed more for me. I need the Kraken king and his prehensile penis dammit!
Anyway, I’m giving this 3⭐️ solely because I just don’t like vanilla romance novels. I need darkness. I need fantasy. I need unhinged content apparently. I’m a fantasy reader who enjoys some romance.
If you’re a vanilla basic romance reader, you’ll probably love this. It’s cheesy and sweet and romantic and everything you’re looking for. Just not for me, although I appreciate Netgalley for the ARC.

I love all the books I’ve read by Katee Robert! I was so excited for this one! I obviously did not pay attention that it was 2 stories in one, so pleasant surprise! The first was so good! Quick pace, a lot going on but not over complicated and love the spicy stuff! It was tied up perfectly and I loved the characters. The second story - while the main characters of this were introduced somewhat in the first story, it was their own stand alone that kind of built continuing from the firsts timeframe. It was good as well, maybe a touch out of the “everyday romance” sort of story, but it worked. I did feel like it sort of ended abruptly, and was surprised it was the end already. I liked it, but not near as much as the first story! Overall, a quick, spicy ready that I enjoyed!
