The book overall was pretty good. I think the plot was constructed well and that the characters had some dimension to them. Honestly, the main (and only) star of the show is the actual case Rachel Knight is solving. The relationships between the characters were also fine, mostly, but the way the characters were described (especially the women) felt very catty. There was an emphasis on “natural beauty that doesn’t need makeup” and how one of the women “didn’t gain weight” that was brought up immediately in the introduction of characters and stayed constant throughout the book. Also, the main character had this weird side-obsession with working out and not gaining weight that distracted from any actual character-building and also could be triggering for some. It was so focused on that, and didn’t seem constructive in any capacity. The characters were also not incredibly dimensional, but I feel like there’s a lot of potential to build on them in the next books.

However, the plot itself was excellent, kept me engaged, and wasn’t predictable. I recommend it if you’re craving a good mystery.
