THIS BOOK! yes it's right up my street, loved it! Thriller, twists, tension.... A great storyline, I enjoyed the characters. I would love to see the TV or film adaptation. I enjoy books that you could actually picture happening or being true. Psychological thriller with lots is suspense, Detective Baarda and American forensic psychologist, Connie Woolwine are investigating the disappearance of three people in Edinburgh, Scotland. Three people are locked in a flat, they have no idea who has taken them or why. The shadow man is mentally deranged. The tension is great, you can picture and feel the desperation. Not for everyone but I loved it.

First half really dragged, last 40% of the book was significantly better

I could not get into this book. I connected with none of the characters and the mystery having a perspective from the police, the victim and the perpetrator did not work for me so decided to read something that I would like instead.

The Shadow Man is the first book by Helen Fields that I have read and I found it to be interesting. The story follows Dr Connie Woolwine and DI Brodie Baarda as they investigate the disappearance of three people. It is narrated from the perspective of a third person narrator which provided insight into multiple characters and events.

I like the way that Connie comes across as being crass but in fact she is really was intelligent, had a unique perspective and was humorous at times. Baarda was my favourite character because he was so kind and gentle. I really liked the chemistry between Connie and Baarda because I think it made them work really well together.

My favourite part of the book was definitely the ending because it was twisted, interesting and because I really liked Connie’s bravery. I personally didn’t find this book to be a thriller and I would describe it as being more of a whodunnit but that is just my opinion. The only thing that I found to be creepy is The Shadow Man himself but I’m sure you will find out why when you read the book.

I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.

My first crime thriller book. That was intense I had to finish it. I like the side story to the crime makes it less dark.

Read out of order and if I read this one first, I might not have read the 2nd book, which I loved.

Absolutely gruesome! Similar to the Perfect series, with its Edinburgh setting and police v murderer scenario. It’s nicely set up for a sequel. What will the author think of next? I can’t wait!
