This was slightly better than vol 2, but I'm still happy to be done with this series.

Way better than vol. 2, and I almost feel like you can skip vol. 2 and go right into this ....the deterioration of Azrael and the final confrontation with Batman was worth it.

This is closer to the kind of pay-off one expects after such a grueling saga, a strong and memorable last note. The final showdown between Batman and Azrael is nothing short of awesome. It has a Kill Bill vibe to it, even though the last confrontation also reminisces Beatrix and Bill's fight—I assume to the chagrin of many—.

However, I didn't know what to expect of the aftermath, and I was gladly surprised this volume includes "Prodigal" which quickly became one of my favorite sagas involving Robin and Nightwing (with the latter under Batman's cowl). Bruce Wayne leaves, once again, and Dick Grayson becomes the Bat with Tim at his side. Their rapport is amazing, and it's wonderful to see them handle Batman's tasks as well as Alfred's. They actually succeed in doing so, even though the writers made the horrid choice not to give them worthy villains, except for Harvey Two-Face, which renders this short selection unable to transcend as it should. "Prodigal" will remain one of my favorite sagas, but the lack of interesting enemies to fight will leave readers wanting more, almost wishing Bruce Wayne had taken longer in returning.

4 stars for the first half of the volume, but the slogging second half brings it to 3 stars. Wish they had included issues showing what Bruce did while he was away (both times)
