This was cute!

I did find myself wishing we got a little deeper with the character development as it feels like we only got a glimpse of the characters’ resolving mental health challenges at the very end. But, I can see how Emily’s writing has developed and improved in some of her more recent works to this point!

This is a fun, lighthearted novel. If you want an easy read that won't upset you as an escape from reality, this is a decent choice. The chapter structure that alternates between the present narrative and the previous summer trips works to aid the pacing and tension. The abandonment of this structure is irksome when the BIG CLIMACTIC PREVIOUS TRIP should be the next chapter, but instead it is further delayed in an obvious bid to up the ante. The characters are cute and believable, except that the idea of any magazine paying for a travel writer for extravagant trips does seem a bit far fetched. This novel has the feel of being written during covid, when people were dreaming of being able to travel, and the publication date indicates this may have been the case. Cute, fun, easy stakes, and decent sentence-level writing (and solid dialogue).
