Eh, it’s disappointing. Kinda boring. An Evangelist, White Savior Sherlock Holmes. I get that it is supposed to be a cozy mystery, but I didn’t feel any mystery or any thrill at all.

It was so incredibly boring. NGL, the only reason I read it was because of the cat, library, and murder mystery. I thought the cat may have been helped with the investigation or something. But no, the cat is just a cat. I feel like I got duped or false marketing.

The plot device that the librarian would get involved in the murder investigation because the head detective is Black and her mother is worried that no one will take her seriously, so she wants the white man to investigate on behalf of her without her being aware of it…. Just…. Is so gross.

Quick, addicting read.

This was better than I thought if would be, I thought I had the murderer pegged, but the story twisted to someone else. Will probably check out the next one soon.

This was a fairly bland cozy mystery. The plot was just about what I'd expect from a novel in this genre (which I admittedly enjoy). I was excited about the cat, but even that aspect of the story was very far-fetched.

At first I was excited to learn that the main voice was going to be that of a male. In my experience, cozy mysteries usually star a feisty (and unrealistic) female. Unfortunately, the main character, Charlie Harris (was the author a Charlaine Harris fan, perhaps?), was dull and lacked any real depth. He reminded me of Fred from Scooby Doo combined with Mr. Rogers. There was a little too much information regarding the mundane details of his life. I was sick of listening to him talk about what he was eating for breakfast, that a little exercise perked him up, he loved his maid, blah blah blah.

The best part about Charlie was his love for his cat, Diesel. However, it was really unrealistic that Charlie simply brought Diesel everywhere he went with him. The cat had absolutely no part in the story except to make Charlie seem more interesting, and even that wasn't enough to save him. There were parts that just felt so stupid, like when he brought the cat to a funeral. He claims something along the lines of, I wasn't the only one late, but I was the only one who brought a cat . No s***, Sherlock. Did anyone else bring their dog? Who brings a cat to a funeral?

Just little things like that really began to bother me more and more throughout the novel. Another really stupid continuous plot point was every single character having a grudge against the deceased. As soon as this guy pops up dead, everyone in the town is saying things along the lines of: Good riddance, I hated that man and am glad he is dead! Please write my name down as a potential suspect in this ongoing homicide investigation! Just stupid.

A fairly decent plot twist at the end, but the lack of depth and general repetitiveness of many aspects of the plot lead me to not want to pick up the next in this series.
