The exception to the rule

This book series made me a fan of this author. It's honest and so fun to embrace the friendships throughout.

Let me start with this, Ian is AMAZING, but Rose will steal your heart! We meet them both in 'Defining the Rules' and I knew from there Rose was my book sister. Talk about two stubborn people falling for one another. It was easy to see that Ian was invested from the beginning and was heartbroken when Rose shut him out. Rose was born with this energy that draws people in. She was meant to change the world until her world came crashing down. One of the things I loved most about this story is Rose's journey to be who she was meant to be and all Ian wanted to do was hold on and not let go. Watching the emotions play out for these two is a perfect journey. The jealousy, longing, friendship, comfort, anger and lust, will twist you up and keep you reading.

Something I want to say I loved about this book, when we love our kids we try to protect them from the world. With some of that, they don't know the reason behind many decisions you make. In this case, it opened Rose's eyes and allowed her to heal her relationship with her father.

We have Paxton's story left and while I can't wait for, I'm not ready to say goodbye to these guys!!!

Ahhh Rose and Ian. How I have waited for your story and let me tell you, Dietz did not disappoint with you two! I adore that this is a slow burn second chance romance. There is a lot of push and pull between these two and so much feels! You delve into their fears and their connection and I could not put it down once I started.
While this book can be read as a standalone, I totally recommend reading the other series. This one really hits you hard with all the feels! It has just the right amount of sassy banter, sizzling passion and so much more.

You don't have to read the other four books before this one but I suggest doing so because there is back story that makes this story better and explains the relationships between characters that are unclear without doing so. This wasn't my favorite in the series, you kind of saw this book coming since book three. It was a good story with strong character development that touched on subjects that are real and emotional and hold people back in life. If you want a love story that shows the darker side of relationships and how your youth effects you life and mind, this is the story to read. It touches on how our parents choices and just life in general scar and scare us from things. It's slightly unrealistic on how fast the character gets over her abandonment and trust issues but it is a story. Overall a great read and good story.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting Rose’s story since we were introduced to her in Arlo + Olivia’s book and I was so excited to finally read about her. Mariah definitely did not disappoint with this beautiful novel. I loved every single thing about this. She tackled some hard subjects and very real things that we women face today. It was done so beautifully. Kudos! Well done!

I adored Ian. I loved how protective he was with the guys on his team. I also really loved the side characters Bree and Logan. I would love to see more of them. I know they only had small roles, but Bree definitely pulled at my heartstrings!

I can’t believe we are nearing the end of this series. It makes me so sad that we only have Pax’s book left, and then our Brighton boys (and girls) will be done. This has been an amazing journey and definitely some of Mariah’s best work!
