2.5* This was a tough one to get through. The vibes, magic system, overall journey, and some characters were top notch. I had really high hopes in the early parts of this book. As I kept on I was really struggling with the lack of attachment to the main characters. I hated Jonas throughout the entire book. Silla’s character development went back and forth, it grew when it was convenient and then she was helpless again. The pacing of the book was terrible. Flew through parts and then spent 50 pages on the road cooking and doing not much of anything. I’m glad it’s over.

Solid 4 star read for me. This did take a while to get off the ground and I found it a touch too slow at times but overall, the story, character interactions and world building kept me entertained.

While this story doesn’t necessarily reinvent the wheel, it still was a setting I haven’t read before. Was not a fan of the smut scenes as they were not sexy/well written or the nicknames for Silla. Curls? Sunshine? It didn’t fit the world and would be what I expected from a modern day romance.

I was initially rooting for Jonas but the switch up felt very abrupt and opened the door for Rey and Silla (which I’m not necessarily opposed to). It’s a plot point I think will be very interesting in the next book given how much will have to be revealed on both of their parts.

Overall, good story, good writing but was slower paced and had some aspects that did take me out of the world a bit.
