I feel like I'm impatient when it comes to my mystery. I've found I like this genre more when they are shorter because I can't wait to find out who the guilty person is.
I guess I'm supposed to put the clues together and figure it out myself, but I rather just the author spoon feed me the solution lol. I know thats not the point of the genre, but I loved this because it was short and sweet. No time for fluff. I'll be finishing the series this month

Three dead bodies found in less than a month. Sleepy Widow’s Island is baring all its secrets. In the third installment of Melinda Leigh’s Widow’s Island series picks up the story of Tess, Cate and Logan as they continue to unravel the mysteries around them.
Best friends, and law enforcement officers, Tess Black and Cate Wilde set out to solve the latest mystery plaguing their hometown. As a body washes up on shore, it is clear the water doesn’t erase all of its secrets….
Meanwhile, clues to their childhood best friend’s decades old disappearance begin to surface, as well. Seems Widow’s Island is coming clean.
In my review of book two I discussed the heavy focus on Logan’s PTSD. While it was once again heavily focused on- it seemed like it was romanticized a bit which made me a bit uncomfortable. I’m hoping as I begin book four that they heavy focus seen in the last two
Installments begins to shift. There is far more to
Logan than his diagnosis and I hope more of his character is explored.

#1 Close to the Bone: ★★★★☆ | 4 stars
#2 A Bone to Pick: ★★★★☆ | 4 stars

Whisper of Bones was a bit underwhelming. It was shorter than the previous installments and, despite enjoying Tessa and Logan's perspectives, I didn't feel connected to the story in the same way. Everything felt rushed and a bit unnecessary.
One positive point was how it touched back on Samantha's disappearance. I'm very curious about this subplot in particular and the novella delivered a little piece of information that I believe will have great impact in the novellas to come.

Another entertaining chapter in this series with enough allusions to a cold case that makes we want to keep reading.
When a body washes ashore on a remote island, a local police officer and a park ranger team up to solve the crime.
A paint-by-numbers mystery with absolutely no nuance. The two leads promptly make the rounds, where of course every person they interview acts shifty in some fashion and has reason to commit the crime. Even the personal beats, involving one's PTSD and one's ailing mother, are merely checkmarks on a To-Do list. The writing is decent, it's just that there's no soul and certainly nothing memorable.

Melinda does another fantastic job with keeping me turning the pages (scrolling on my kindle in this case) with the story, and I can’t wait to read more after the ending in this novella. I need to know more about the biggest mystery that both Tessa and Cate are trying to find out more about, and that is what happened to their friend twenty years ago. There was something that happened in this book that may have brought more evidence to sight.
