thank god i've read a lot of reviews and knew exactly what to expect from this one. it broke my heart to see ally so traumatized by something that clearly wasn't her fault and i hope that she can work things out with lisa.

In every good BDSM book, there is a section about trust, safewords, communication, limits, sexual history, etc. This volume was that section, very important for the characters but doesn't have too much plot. It gave some necessary backstory for Ally, also introduced some new characters and their first visit to a club. I love this pair and can't wait to read more of them.
the second volume retains the likeable characters from the first volume, but tries to be too instructive in regards to beam, and it became a bit boring. But fun all in all
The series is still holding up. Basically I've read 1-5, I think the comic goes on after that but... 1-5 was what I was most interested in, and what worked the best for me. I read this back on like, DeviantArt and was happy to buy trades of it when they were available.
I liked it more than the first volume, but the perspective still bugs me.

I had hoped that the second volume of Sunstone would be as good as the first, and was not disappointed. For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, Sunstone is a graphic novel series about two women who enter into a BDSM relationship and fall in love in the process.
Volume 2 picks up around a week after the first book ends. It’s still relatively early in Ally and Lisa’s relationship. Lisa is introduced to Ally’s friend Alan and some of his kinky friends, and they propose an excursion to the local BDSM club. But Ally’s enjoyment of the club is overshadowed by memories of an incident in her past, and visiting the club brings back a lot of painful memories. Ally realizes that the trust that’s necessary in their relationship dynamic goes both ways, and that she can open up to Lisa and make herself emotionally vulnerable. It brings the closer together as a couple.
One of the things that I find interesting in the Sunstone series so far is that the actual plot of the story is slow, and most of the drama in the story isn’t even happening in the present tense. Sunstone is the story of a relationship, and as such it isn’t about who did what so much as about the scary feelings of entering into a new relationship and opening up with each other and realizing that falling in love means that you risk getting hurt but that for the right person it’s worth it. And even though Ally and Lisa are into whips and rope and ball gags, the core ideas of the story are applicable to all romantic relationships.
Šejić is masterful in conveying emotional nuance, and I recommend Sunstone without hesitation. Sappy as it may sound, with everything going on in the world right now, it’s nice to read something that’s such a joyful celebration of love.
