this book completely weirded me out. in a good way. one of my forever favs.
i think this book can be interpreted many ways….but i think of it as a person going through a spiraling depression
four stages:
1. turning into a bug
2. adapting to life as a bug
3. being rejected from society
4. giving up on life, realizing your family is better off without the burden of you, … starving and dying.
finished this book in the middle of class and had to act like i was so normal and so okay
read it please

there's just something so soul shattering about books that portray characters that would do everything for their loved ones and them thinking of those characters as burdens even before they are gone

It is excellent thematically, but like with a lot of translated works, I did find some of it to be stilted, and that took me out of it. The language was very distant and almost clinical, which lessened the impact of the horror for me.
