Wow, I was amazed by this book and how much I actually really enjoyed it. This is my first book by Barry Lyga.

Jasper aka Jazz is a great male character and it is hard to find one that you can like on one side and dislike at the same time because you don't want him to go "dark" like his father. I was surprised that Jasper wasn't thrown into jail because he was trying to "help" the police with trying to solve the murders. Howie was a perfect best friend/side kick, he cracked me up especially when he was making fun of himself.

The book was clever and it had me guessing "who dunnit". When the serial killer was revealed I totally gasped! I didn't see it coming but I feel like I should have. Some of the murder scenes were gross and some people with the faint of heart might have to skip over them.

The only reason why I gave it 4 stars was because I felt at the end when the serial killer was revealed the plot went really fast and I felt like things were developed way to quickly.

While reading this, I thought Jasper and Cas from "Anna dressed in blood" would be friends maybe if there books were to come together some how.

Readalike for people that like the shows Dexter and CSI plus I think boys will just gobble this book up. I'm interested to hear what other people say about the sequel and if I will read it when it comes out.

Right so I had this on my shelf for a long time picked it up and put down a few times as well so when I decided to finally read this I thought it would be like the other times I pick it up and put it back down no but this time was different I listen to the first few chapters and it just gripped me I can't exactly tell you why I love this book I just know I do it so different to anything I've ever read and a lot of times I felt sorry for jazz at the end of the day he didn't ask for this it wasn't his fault that his dad was a serial killer and there was a copycat killer out there trying to make it look like him also you go through this book in a bit of confused just like the character that's the best way I could say it howie was one of my favourite characters him me laugh and I loved it that Jazz would get tattoos for him to look at

This book was very intriguing! Extremely different than anything else in the genre. It was a quick and flowing read. The build up was very well written but the conclusion seemed to come all at once. It was good just didn't match the pace the rest of the book set. Character was abit *too* self loathing for my taste but I guess that's the point for a serial killers son? It gets repetitive but not so much so that you don't still hungeredly read each page.

Can't wait to find out what happens next!

I really enjoyed this book! It was very fast paced and exciting, with fairly likable characters and a compelling mystery. This book did have some pretty disturbing moments, but nothing too bad in my opinion (although I do frequently watch horror movies). And that cliffhanger had me pumped for the sequel.

This book should come with a warning "Not for the faint hearted"! It was very disturbing at times. But don't think that I didn't like it, because I did!

Serial killer Billy Dent has taught his son, Jazz Dent, everything there is to know about how to kill people and get rid of their bodies - how to become the perfect serial killer just like him. Jazz doesn't want to like his dad though and tries hard to get him out of his head, which is hard when dead bodies start showing up in his local town. Jazz desperately wants to help the police in figuring out who the killer is. As the bodies pile up will they be able to find the killer before he/she moves on? You will have to read to find out.

Jazz is a hard character to like - he's a bit like Dexter (for any one who has ever watched that show like me). In the TV show you come to love Dexter because he has real feelings and is a good person even though he has evil tendencies and wants to kill people. Jazz is similar because he hunts down serial killers like Dexter except he doesn't kill them. Jazz is trying to fit into society after his father is convicted and thrown into jail. Before this Jazz had been there for all of "Dear Old Dad's" triple number kills, he didn't witness them all but he may well have because his father would give him a play by play how it happened. Poor kid!

The secondary characters were very easy to like. Jazz's best friend, Howie, is a hemophiliac (someone who's blood is thin and would bleed out quite quickly with a small cut). He has a quirky sense of humor and lightens, at times, a dark novel.

Then there's Connie, Jazz's level headed African-American girlfriend and lastly G. William, who is the typical round, older sheriff of the town. He already has a connection with Jazz because of their past, but they become closer as the book goes on.

There's a little twist at the end and I didn't guess who the killer was which as always is a good thing. I can not wait to read the rest of the books. Even though this is in the teen books, I think adults who love crime would love this series. I don't recommend this to younger teens, some sections are gruesome.

This book was really good! If you have watched the TV show The Prodigal Son then you will love this book. This book takes you inside the mind of Jazz, the son of the most famous serial killer in this fictional United States. Jazz's dad trained Jazz from birth to follow in his footsteps and Jazz is trying to not.

I read this as an audiobook and it really enhanced the experience to hear Jazz and the other character's voices. It let you feel the emotion that Jazz keeps inside his mind and the things he knows is very intimate.
