Up until the acknowledgements of this book, I was convinced this was 2 stars. My issues with it were that absolutely nothing happens; there is not plot, only spice. Granted, not a whole lot can happen since the Spidae are stuck in the tower, but the only development is the humanization of the Spidae and I was hoping for a bit more. I’m going to bump up the rating to 3 stars because the author acknowledges all of that in the Acknowledgements (funny how that works) and kind of said there wasn’t much to write about but everyone wanted it and so she wrote a novella, admitting that it deviates a fair amount from the epic-ness of the rest of the series. It feels unfair to penalize the book for being a novella when it’s probably my own fault for coming into this book expecting it to have more plot.
If you’ve read the other reviews that involved spiderwebs… yes, it’s a thing, and no, I didn’t get used to it. It also didn’t help that this is only the second romance I’ve read where the MMC(s) are described as not being physically attractive. I didn’t love it the first time, and I didn’t like it here either (even if it makes sense for the story).
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would’ve preferred less spice and more plot. So, if you like this series and want a smutty little break, this is a good book, but I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise.

Matter-of-fact spice. A long ride from The King's Spinster blah blah (Aspect and Anchor 0.5) and Bound to the Battle God (A&A 1), indeed.
The filthiest, most inverse long burn, and the most HEA of HEAs.
