A quick read, but a challenging one. What if what is right is wrong? This book seeks to address that question on several levels, from spiritual practice to legal decisions. Strong characters and a lot of heart.

This was okay. It wasn't the best book I have this year, however I enjoyed it. I liked its take on LGBT issues and how it wasn't heavy handed. I thought it also like the relationship between the father and son. The handful of intense moments seemed believable.
The writing is well done also. I listened to this as audiobook and some of the passages read very well.

A very enjoyable read I managed to speed through in one day. I will say based on the description I was expecting them to be in different areas faster, but overall not upset with it

This book presents a heavily overdrawn version of the view many southern evangelicals feel about the LGBTQ+ community, and it fails to make any meaningful commentary on the complexity of the issue. Instead, the main character is victimized (oh, he kidnapped his son for over a year, but he couldn’t help it! he just loved him so much and everyone else hated him!). The part of the book that drew me in, with the flood and the community trying to rebuild after it, was completely lost.

Didn't know much going in, but it didn't go where I expected and I loved it so much.

For someone who spent my childhood traversing the worlds of green, wet east Tennessee and the humid bright of the Florida coast, this book was a nostalgic sensory experience.

This book reached deep into my childhood, faith, current and past beliefs, and it was incredible. This was layered and truthful and complicated in the way only family can be. This won’t be my last Silas House book! (If you hate JD Vance, check this guy out!)
