I really like that this book shows a kid transitioning, and the other kids behaving well instead of giving her a hard time.

The story certainly lives up to its subtitle. It is sweet, gentle, simple and is a wonderful book to use as a conversation starter to kids about what it means to be transgender.

My search continues for a story to help explain gender identity to my just-turned-eleven nephew. This story is very basic and will be good for opening the door to further discussion. The book would have benefited from a few “additional resources” as I’m sure many who pick up this title, like me, are searching for ways to explain gender identity to children.

I did really like that this book took a kick to stereotypes: tea parties and robot building being ideal hobbies regardless of gender!

I didn't love the art, and thought the story was little boring, but it would work to introduce little kids to what it means to be transgender.

Introducing Teddy is a perfect book, in my opinion, to read to a young child. It explains just enough for a child to grasp the understanding of transgender, without getting into huge concepts. It is also just a lovely story with amazing illustrations.

A lovely, uncomplicated story of acceptance and supportive friendship. My 6yo chipped in that girls can also be called Thomas if they want, which is a good point! But he also had no issue with the idea that choosing a new name and a new style of dressing is what some people will prefer to do. Nice introduction to discussing gender identity.

As it says on the cover, a gentle story about being a good friend, even if your friend wants to change their name.

This book is so pure and perfect, and should be a staple in every elementary school library. A wonderful way to normalize the idea of gender identity for all students, not just those questioning their own.
