i haven’t listened to the podcast but this was a good book! i wish some of the excerpts weren’t read by actors. i think they did a good job at staying away from really controversial topics surrounding prison life/making it palatable for people who may not have sympathy for those incarcerated (as much as it is also frustrating to know this is something they had to balance).

If you live the podcast you will enjoy this book! I really enjoyed getting an inside look at the remarkable relationship between Nigel and Earlonne and some behind-the-scenes of the making of Ear Hustle. Recommend for sure!

This is definitely not a bad book! I’m a fan of the podcast but the book format just didn’t work for me. I’m pretty picky with transcribed writings and I think I’ll just stick to the podcast

Enjoyable listen, and I liked the variety of people interviewed.
I did have one issue with the narrator Nigel Poor speaking much faster than everyone else, so no matter what setting I had my audiobook, someone was talking too fast or slow, making for a challenging listening experience.
The print book has lovely illustrations throughout, so even though this is a podcast originally, print might be worth it in this case.

If I hadn't been an avid fan of the podcast already, I might give this more stars. The best part was the first few chapters when Earlonne and Nigel tell their backstories - something they rarely do on the podcast. Otherwise, this book is at least half greatest hits episodes with some behind-the-scenes details.

If you've never listened to the podcast, I think the podcast is better. Go listen to it instead (starting with season 1, episode 1). Granted, I listened to the audiobook, but I felt that I missed out on the excellent sound design of the podcast. Also, some parts of the book are read by voice actors which feels a bit fake compared to the real interviews featured on the podcast. I wish they'd just interpolated excepts from the podcast instead.

I enjoyed hearing from Nigel and Earlonne again, though, and was glad I listened to this.
