This story is about Adam. A sixteen year who is suffering from schizophrenia. Adam is placed in a clinical trial on an experimental drug for his illness. The medicine is what he calls a miracle drug because he finally feels like he is in control of himself. During the time he is on this drug, he starts to interact with his environment more. He attends a new school, finds a girlfriend, makes a friend, and has sex for the first time. Then tragedy strikes, he is becoming immune to the drug and he is thus removed from the clinical trial. He is then taken off the drug incrementally. Then everything turns bleak.

However, there is always beauty for our ashes.

Adam was endearing and engaging. Written in diary style to his therapist, Adam is taking a new trial drug for his schizophrenia. I was initially driven to this 3 stars because everything ended on a pretty stereotypical route (I wanted a somewhat curveball ending) but the story was enjoyable and it's refreshing to read YA novels about persons with mental illness navigating romance, life, family and friendship.

“I get it now. It's hard to let someone find you in all the dark and twisty places inside, but eventually, you have to hope that they do, because that's the beginning of everything.”

This is my first read for 2018 and it astonished the heck out of me. It's surprising how few people read this amazing book that gave depth to schizophrenia in more ways possible. Adam's journal entries are raw and honest, they made things easier for the reader to have a path into his mind. I honestly have no idea what's going on inside a person with a disorder like this and I am glad that I picked this book up.

It's funny on how you think your life sucks and read a book with a messed up character that has a much more difficult ordeal than yours. This book is mind opening, I know that we will never cease to be cautious of people with mental disorders but we will at least have a background on what's going on inside their mind once they act the way that they do.

I had such amazing time while reading this book and it so damn freaking worth it. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's kind of slow at some parts but other than that this was pure perfection.

The book was a little boring for me. I did like learning a little about schizophrenia.

This was surprisingly a very nice read! Adam’s hilarious and I love how lighthearted it was despite the topic it revolves around being a very serious one.
Books that send a message through a story and give it meaning are such a great way of learning about the world around you.
I particularly loved how Adam had such an amazing support circle around him through his family and friends

i really loved this. its super witty and funny in a dark and obscure way (but not too obscure) and super real. The romance between maya and adam was not insta-lovey and not super duper perfect and cutesy. i really enjoyed how it was portrayed. i also really liked how raw adam’s thoughts and feelings were and how real it was. I did wish his character developed a little more, but that might just be the “happy ever after” expectations in me and i hella respect that it didnt take that turn, because any progress is good no matter how small and the ending shows that. i think its a very good rep about mental illness, and not just about schizophrenia. i cant speak about how accurate his schizophrenia was but as someone with depression and anxiety i can definitely relate with a lot of his thoughts, feelings and actions. very very well done book (:
