the scene with candide, cunégonde, and the old woman in the boat arguing about whos had a worse life reminds me a lot of my friendship group when i was 14 trying to decide who was most worthy of their camhs referrals.

An odd book. Interesting every now and then when you think about the time period it was written in as you're reading.
I found this book to be an extremely long-winded philosophical debate that, at times, uses humor but mostly is a dark depressing outlook on life. The lack of a cohesive storyline is really a big negative aspect for me, as it made it extremely difficult to read without my mind drifting off or wanting to put it down and do something else. While usually a fan of classics, this was definitely not my cup of tea. Thankfully it is a very short read.

A rather humorous, satirical, classic based on the theory, "All is for the best". A shake-your-head while chuckling aloud read. Not sure I will ever say "All is for the best", again!
