Beatrice Perez is not really believable. The fact that the CIA trusts someone who is so emotionally attached to seeking revenge makes is very unrealistic. This makes her more unreliable as an asset. Not less.

Every stressful situation is solved or medicated with sex. Tasteful sex but still.... It became irritating.

This was surprisingly one of my favorite reads. I wouldn’t have picked it up had it not been for the POPSUGAR challenge and I needed a book set in the 60s. The author holds well to the history of the era and adds a beautiful romantic twist to it. I constantly went from loving to hating the protagonist, but the ending was absolute perfection. Good amount of twists and action. The story progressed well and read easily.

When We Left Cuba is the next book in the series of The Pete’s Family after Next Year in Havana. I listened to this one included with my audible subscription (only these two are included). I think I liked it more than the first because I loved Beatriz. She is a strong woman looking to make it on her own and help her country, Cuba. She has a very lively and interesting life as she falls in love and helps to save Cuba.

Read Next Year in Havana before reading this book. When We Left Cuba continues the story of Beatriz. It was an interesting historical fiction read, although I wish I had read the two books closer together.
