My second John Steinbeck novel (after the Pearl), solidifying one of my newfound favorite authors. amazing writing, amazing setup and description and characters, and I don’t see things coming until right before they happen and then I am shocked. The second novel where this happens. Definitely reading more Steinbeck :)

i think this would be a good book to write a literary essay on, but from a leisure standpoint i didn’t really enjoy it. it was okay, and i enjoyed the ending, but personally it wasn’t really super interesting to read.
