I didn’t love it as much as the original novel, but it was a great way to revisit one of my all time favorites.
One of the BEST graphic novels I have ever read! The illustrations were so great. I think I actually liked this one more than the fiction book...that is saying something.
Interesting story line of a young boy and his adventures growing up in a graveyard. Lessons of friendship, responsibilities, and learning to stand up for ones self. The art work was fantastic and fascinating to see in different styles. Fun storyline through out, and I would love to see where it goes from here.
3,5/5 The graveyard book is one of my favorite book, so I picked up the graphic novel edition as a way to revisit this novel. I have to say the story is always the same that I loved, but the illustrations aren't excactly to my tastes. I had quite precise images in my head when I read the book and they don't match with the illustrated version at all.
I read this book one chapter at a time after I'd read each chapter in the original novel, and this process helped greatly with my comprehension of the story. The illustrations filled in some gaps left for me by reading the narrative alone, and clarified some images I was forming in my head. For example, in the very beginning, I didn't realize that Silas was a vampire, but one look at his appearance in here, and that fact was crystal clear. (I think I would have gotten the idea eventually had I only read the novel, but this made it immediately evident.)
What a joy to read! I have previously read the book and am so happy I chose to read this as well. The illustrations are exceptional and add so much to the story. I’m looking forward to reading the second one.
