A great way to experience this story. I would, however, still recommend the full text novel over this.

I'm not a big fan of the art but it was because of this graphic novel retelling that I was finally able to go halfway through this book. I never got to finish the regular serialized fiction. I enjoyed this and I flew through the whole thing. It's really good. It doesn't break my heart as much. For something that is set in a graveyard, it doesn't scare me at all. The part that scared me the most was when the boy was outside the graveyard. Isn't that telling of what the world sometimes feels like? Wonderful. 4.5/5.

EDIT SOME YEARS LATER: I swear I don’t remember ever finishing Vol 1 but the review above seems to say I really did. I loved finding this… again. I loved feeling like I read it for the first time. I especially was moved by the arch of Liza. But all in all this one gave me a good warm fuzzy feeling.

Neil Gaiman is such a creative writer. This graphic novel adaptation of his "The Graveyard Book" is really well done, and has me wanting to read Volume 2 as well as Neil Gaiman's novel on which it is based. Excellent storytelling!!
