This was such a strange and wonderful read!

It follows the story of a boy who is raised by a graveyard of ghosts and... other things.

While there is a ongoing plot, this is written more as a series of short stories or chapters about unrelated events, which all range from delightful to creepy to both. The artwork is beautiful, the stories wild and weird, the characters charming.

Now to read volume 2!

3.5/5

I loved Red Queen but I definitely was not a big fan of Glass Sword, but then King’s Cage came along and oh boy…King’s Cage is truly a story of survival. It’s a whirlwind of war, secrets and politics.

Maven is such a brilliant and wicked character. His mother’s mind twisting and manipulation is rooted so deep within him that he can’t let go. His love for Mare is turned into an obsession and that makes him wicked. Nonetheless, he is a victim and I still have hopes for him.

Mare was not one of my favorite character but in this book I grew to like her. You can see her struggle with all the anger she keeps within herself. Her character develops so much in this book. You can see her scheming and calculating every move and despite her captivity she never gives up hope. Seeing her and Maven use each other’s weaknesses to survive is priceless. I loved the tension in their dialogues.
“Now I’m in a king’s cage. But so is he. My chains are Silent Stone. His is the crown.'

Cal. Cal. Cal. He is reluctant to choose a side and is forced to make a decision. I totally see where he comes from and I am okay with that. I adore him and his love for Mare. The romance between Mare and him just melts my heart.
“It’s not his fault the lightning girl loves him, and he must bear the curse that love brings with it.”

One of the things I did not see coming is: liking Evangeline. Like what even? I loathed her, but this book just turned all the tables. I always thought she was only here for the crown but there is so much more to it. Like Maven she was ‘made’ but we see glimpse of what she desires.

Although some parts got dull or stretched out a bit, I enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to see this crazy story unfold in the final installment.

FANTASTIC. Hilarious hijinks and found family and *chefs kiss* beautiful character development. 900/10 would read again

And nothing happened...

I would rate it one star, but the art was lovely and I did finish it. The story was tedious and nothing happened.

Sooooo good! The Graveyard book is one of my favourite Neil Gaiman novels and so far I'm loving the graphic novel adaptation, although it is a bit confusing at times that the art style changed throughout the book, which is why I deducted a half star. But I'm so looking forward to jumping into Vol. 2 right away!
