An amazing read from beginning to end. I love the main character sassy and determined personality. Silvia descriptive way of writing sets the tone and puts the reader in the moment as if you were there with the characters.

I finished this at 2am so excuse the lack luster review. Do know I have tears in my eyes from the tenderness of that ending.
There is something so sweet (maybe the wrong word. comforting?) about two people going through something so terrible, coming out utterly broken and terrified, and falling in love. Idk. I guess it’s just like, finding comfort in someone in a world that has denied them comfort. Anyways that’s why the ending made me cry.
Overall, great horror. Like I properly felt sick to my stomach (both from the mushroom/gore/illness stuff but also just from the existence of Virgil). I imagine the abuse of women in the history of this family like an ever growing stain on the house, rotting it away until it collapsed. The corruption of women’s bodies for the nefarious purposes of greedy men, exemplified through the infection and control of the mushroom, was haunting. All the more satisfying to watch it burn.

It started off strong and then fell flat. I enjoyed the writing style and where the story was going, but it was hard to keep me interested at times. I loved that Veracruz was mentioned! It felt slow and rushed. Wasn’t great, wasn’t terrible either!
