I never knew where this book was going, though I did enjoy the journey there.

With a vocabulary that actually had me searching for definitions, Mexican Gothic was surprising, dark, and vivid with its imagery. It's set up to potentially have a sequel, though I think the idea of the simple ending it had is appealing after reading the darkness that came with the High Place.

The plot was confusing at times, since it's meant to throw you off. Even so, I never guessed what was actually behind the darkness that haunts Noemí and her cousin. I would say some scenes could be triggering and the descriptors of others nauseating, but overall I did like this book and it kept me in a daze after I finished
