I am a little nervous because this is my first real review but here goes. I am a little conflicted about the book if I am being honest....
I enjoyed the way that the story was set up, with the atmosphere and mystery keeping me hooked the entire way through. Neomi is an interesting enough main character that pushes the story forward, and the members of the house are unsettling enough to keep me on edge. I cannot deny that the last third was amazing (raised my rating from a 3.5 to a 4), I was completely absorbed, I NEEDED to know if she would escape. Would she take Francis and Catalina with her? Would they force her back?
However, the book overall wasn't as scary as some made it out to be. This may be because of (what I feel is) its slow pace, in my opinion, the story only picked up at around the 200-page mark. Additionally, I was a little disappointed at how our main character didn't really piece anything together, instead, it was all info dumped on us at the last third and we were meant to just go with it.
