Cartea te ține cu sufletul la gură până la sfârșit. Mi-a plăcut că autoarea a înserat de la început indicii care intuiau sfârșitul cărții. The book keeps you in suspense until the end. I liked that the author inserted from the beginning clues that intuited the end of the book.
The thing I love most about thrillers is when they’re about girls/women and the ways society fails them. The second thing I love is when they’re dark and twisty in ways that genuinely unnerve me, rather than following the same formulas I already know. The third thing I love is when there are surprises I genuinely never saw coming, not even a little bit.
This book has all of those elements. I loved it very much and will now go and find the rest of the author’s work and read it. I hope it holds up, but even if it doesn’t, this will still have been magnificent. that ending. I gasped aloud and said “oh shit,” causing my roommate to ask from his bedroom if I was okay. So satisfying.

I enjoyed this read about a vicar named Jack, and her teenage daughter, who is sent to a rural village to preside over a church with a dark history after the previous vicar dies. The history has to do with two young girls who we burned alive during witchcraft panic times because of their faith, and that history now defines the community of Chapel Croft. Since that time, two other girls have gone missing, along with another pastor of the church, back in the late 80’s, and the question at the back of the reader's mind is, how are they connected.
There is no real witchcraft within the story, with the subtle exception of the burning girls themselves. The horror of the novel comes from twisted people doing twisted things. I was hovering at a three star rating because, while the story was enjoyable, it didn’t grab me like others have. Until maybe two thirds of the way through when the author hit us with those surprising twists that I didn’t see coming. The story is less horror (although still horror) more murder mystery/thriller, and a good one for fans of the genre.

Exhausting. The author is lazy, racist, homophobic and ableist. Boring and offensive - predictable as heck.
Listened to the audiobook on 2x just to get thru it after a bit. Oof.
Update: Oh my god I wrote this 2 years ago and yet here I am reading something else from this horrid fucking author!?

This review is just one big trigger warning.
I wanted to like this book... and I did finish it, but maaan I hated the ending. This book was essentially one big trauma dump after the next in attempt to distract readers from figuring out the mystery. Like the almost rape scene for Jack's brother Jacob?! Like why?! And Jack actually being Merry, one of the original missing girls? Hated that because she seemed so out of touch with the town... that she grew up in??? And no one recognized her or Flo?! And Wrigley was a killer..... for fun.... and enjoyed torture with Rosie? Like okay? What were the odds? And let's just throw in the religious trauma with Jack being part of the church.
I felt like this book were three major traumas loosely tied together in a haphazard ending. Tudor really paints a picture, but it was so far fetched in tying everything together that I was severely disappointed. Also, who killed the mom?! Wtf is this town.

This was my second foray into this author’s work, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book despite feeling it was formulaic. This, in my opinion, is a perfect beach read! Yes, probably because my tolerance for slightly creepy things is higher, but also because the bond between mother and daughter in this book was so touching. I truly enjoyed all the reveals and the slight hint of the paranormal. All in all a solid read!
