I'm late to this party -- this book was published in 2016 -- but I just saw Hamilton live for the first time and wanted to read the complete libretto. This book is so much more. It's the backstory about how Hamilton got made from Lin-Manuel Miranda's early idea of a hip-hop concept album based on Rob Chernow's biography of Hamilton to the huge cultural phenomenon that the show became. Great read for Broadway buffs and Hamilton fans.

I'm only marking this as Finished instead of Currently Reading because I know I'll be actively coming back to this book over and over again for the next six months at least. I've only had it for twelve hours and I've cried twice over some of the content.

"Hamilton" is a history-making, mold-breaking musical. "Hamilton: The Revolution" gives a wonderful look at the personalities and talents that went into this genius musical. The back-stage conversations are fun, enlightening, and important. For someone who wants to know more about why this musical is getting so much attention, or who wants to know how a blockbuster Broadway musical comes together, or someone who wants to understand the years of work that go into an "overnight" success, this book will be a delightful tour.

This book would be worth it for the stage directions and cut lyrics alone, but add in Lin-Manuel Miranda's notes and a collection of insightful chapters documenting the show's creation and rise to phenomenon-status and it's a must-read for anyone who enjoyed the musical and/or the cast recording. Which should, honestly, be everyone.

I am a huge fan of the musical Hamilton and so I very much enjoyed this book. It was a quick read with most of the pages being the lyrics to the show, but I enjoyed reading about how the show came to be. I loved reading the notes Lin made about certain lyrics. I don't know much about hip hop or rap so a lot of those references were over my head. I do wish there had been more about what lines were actually taken from history and which weren't, but I guess I will have to read the biography for those! My only complaint - the musical does have some strong language.

I'm not crying... YOU'RE CRYING *rolls away sobbing into ten dollar bill*

Enjoyed learning more about the creative process behind Hamilton, explanations on the lyrics, and seeing those gorgeous photos! but oh my god the essays were not written all that well #tbh sometimes so confusing, didn’t always explain references/events, and sometimes threw in a tidbit that should have been in an earlier essay!
