Ridge and Callie

The FMC in this story has escaped from the community that her family is from with the help of her mother. The community is a place where women are subservient to men, and she wants no part of this. When she escapes she moves to a small town with a friend that she met once and her life has taken shape. Her friend tells her boss, our MMC and owner of the local bar, that she needs a new place to live, and he immediately offers the second half of his duplex. He has known since he saw her 13 months ago when she moved to town, she was his. But he also knew he needed to proceed with caution. Now that she is living next door, he plans to show her that they are meant to be together. As he shows her how she is meant to be treated their relationship blooms. They know they are meant to be, but will her past find a a way to disrupt this?

I liked these characters and I really wanted to like this book.
It's better than the "Jerky Jacob" and Harper story, but there is so little plot it's disappointing.
It's just basically their sex life with few interludes of daily life. If you took out all the sex scenes, there's no book left. Not what I'm looking for.
There was an interesting progression in how she felt about herself as she moved away from her toxic family of origin, but it was all in relation to Ridge & sex. I would have liked to see more of her finding herself in other contexts.
Ridge is a great character and he was adorably smitten with her.
This author has written some complex and engaging stories that have a lot of depth. These characters deserved that kind of story.

This is a 3.75 for me. It’s an insta-love story, which is fine for me, but I feel like this would have been better off as a slow burn based on the storyline. I liked the MMC and the FMC for the most part, the rub for me was the storyline. She escapes a cult and has 0 experience with men and the experience she does have has been one rooted in control. But as soon as she realizes the MMC likes her she is all in. Has no lingering effects of the cult she escaped? Like she can just jump in with no fear? Then IMO she becomes completely dependent on him, but not in a healthy way, not sure how to explain it.

For me I would have liked to see more of the build up of their romance. To see it evolve after leaving the compound. A lot could have been done with their story, it just felt cheesy and rushed.

This one was cute but nothing exciting. It’s about how obsessed Ridge is with Callie from the first moment he saw her. They meet and Callie has strong feelings for Ridge too and they start getting familiar with one another. When I read the synopsis of this book I was excited to read about Callie’s life previously but we don’t see a whole lot about that. We get some glimpses but I think for me to be familiar and really empathize with Callie I should’ve gotten a lot more background. Also there’s no real chemistry between the main characters. I see that they meet and fall in love and then Ridge familiarizes Callie with the ‘new’ world, but theres no real fighting or differences between the two. The whole book was very vanilla and I wasn’t very excited about it.

The dynamic between the two MCs was really weird. She has all this trauma from her past but is instantly in a relationship it seems. The way he talks to her is a little creepy too.
