This book is both admirable and frustrating. It's clearly big-brain stuff. Egan does an admirable job of extrapolating technology and society while smoothly shoveling in metaphysics. I'd probably be more impressed with the premise if I hadn't read the same core concept written by another author... so no surprises. (Sorry, I can't remember the source.)
The book failed to concentrate its complexity into a personal story. It was all ideas pouring like a flood from the mouths of interchangeable characters. It felt like one man sitting alone, arguing with himself. If you loved Asimov's Foundation series, then you won't mind this idea-driven aproach. For me though, it was a bit too much work.

The first half is pretty interesting world building. The 2nd half and the hook I just couldn't get behind.
An interesting exploration of what will happen when we develop the technology to copy our minds to computers and escape death. This story brought scenarios I had not considered.
100 pages in and im moving on. Maybe ill come back to it someday or maybe try another Egan.
