Really nice to see what happens to Jim and get more insight into his character.

This book was much more of a traditional romance than the other Broken World series books have been. Instead of focusing on a large group of characters trying to survive the zombie apocalypse in various ways, it focuses much more on the relationship (and survival!) of just one couple—Jim and Amira. It’s more of a companion novel to the series than a true seventh book (I still kind of feel like book six is the “final” book of the series because it gives us a more solid, true ending). That didn’t stop me from loving being able to jump back into this world, though.

It took me a little while to remember who Jim was (he was Jon’s friend with a criminal past), but I still found that I was invested in his story from the very beginning. The book starts out with Jim’s narrow escape from the zombies. Amira is a fascinating character, and I loved how her Deafness added a completely new layer to the zombie apocalypse than I’d ever imagined before. She has to be that much more vigilant because she can’t hear danger coming, but she makes up for her lack of hearing with her other, more sharpened senses and with her keen intelligence. Of course, it takes Amira and Jim both some time to trust each other, but they quickly became a favorite couple of mine! Overall, I give this book 4/5 Stars.

I loved learning more about Jim and his past life. And Amira! I couldn’t imagine being unable to hear but unable to hear in a zombie apocalypse, WOW! I’m ready to finish this series with the last book and then find more by this author to read.

From Jim's perspective, and that of a new character, Amira. Amira is deaf in this treacherous world. An interesting perspective.
