The ending was upsetting with the destruction of New Orleans. I preferred the New Orleans setting to that of the Wyld so I enjoyed books 1 and 2 the most.

I just…I still liked the setting and the characters…or at least the potential of the characters…but this one was just painful for me to read instead of fun like the earlier ones. I get frustrated when there are characters who are deceptive/untrustworthy/conniving and the reader can see it all but other characters can’t. So I had a hard time with that but kept going hoping for some clarity and resolution. And I feel like many things were unresolved or just not addressed. The plot was very convoluted and I think there was just too much going on. As for the ending, I might have been okay with the ending if it weren’t for everything leading up to it. Celine in particular, I was unhappy about how her character arc finished. (or was NOT finished, personally.) I just didn’t feel a sense of rightness or satisfaction and I was really hoping for that after pushing through this book. Alas.

This book is fucking sick, from start to finish. Phenomenal. Amazing. Celine though? You’re a pain in the ass, and I thought you’d get better, but you never did. Bastien, I’m so proud of you, king.

Arjun and Jae? You’re so dearly missed, you don’t even know.

New Orleans? I love you. Pippa? I’m so proud of you. It would be a 5 if it ended in the way I think it deserved but maybe it’s for the best. I just feel so unresolved.

Emilie deserves worse. Arjun and Jae didn’t deserve to die. The Court of Lions deserved to be reunited. Ouna didn’t deserve to die. IF CELINE TRUSTED BASTIEN I SWEAR WE WOULDNT BE HERE BUT NOOO SHE JUST HAD TO BRING THE BATTLE TO FUCKING NOLA!
