I was really disappointed with how this book turned out after enjoying it so much before.
The miscommunication trope is my least favorite ever and this whole book was one miscommunication after another, one lie and misheld piece of information after another….
Celine, who had once been this strong female MC, took a major turn for the worse in this one. I thought her character devolution was truly disheartening in this book. You saw it in the 3rd book but I thought it was so much worse in this one.
I also thought the ending was super rushed and feels really unresolved. I’m not even totally sure how it all happened and it was all just kinda weird.
Super disappointed in this one

This wasn’t my favorite. Celine never seems to learn and can be quite insufferable. The ending was fine but the story to get there seemed kind of all over the place.
Non my favorite of the series, but I did enjoy the ending and appreciated the "reality" of it.

I had high hopes for this series and books 1-3 were great! Book 4, don’t even waste your time. The ending was not good for the amount of detail and world building that went into this series. Very disappointing and I think you can stop at book 3.

The ending really pissed me off. Why did we kill off so many characters, why was so much detail put into stories for half assed endings. What the hell happened to Eloise and pippa. Why was Celine so damn insufferable. I felt like I was reading a different book than the first 3 it made me sad and disappointed
Oh no this was such a disappointing ending to such a great concept of a series :((
The one thing I did enjoy was actually Celine’s mental turmoil towards the middle/end of the book and how she goes through almost an actual emotional breakdown. Especially with the killing of her mother, Bastien’s betrayal, and finding out that Pippa is alive (through Emilie of all people) all in rapid succession. Although Celine did some questionable acts and her character didn’t feel as authentic as it did from the beginning of Book 1
I enjoyed the plot to some extent but it was really lacking like I didn’t think much happened?? It all happened really quickly at the very end of the book and I didn’t have much time to digest.
I really, genuinely wish the series stuck to vampires and werewolves in 19th(?) century New Orleans. I really dont like the inclusion of faeries and the Wyld/Vale. The first book was so amazing, almost like a late 00s vampire renaissance but the slow inclusion of the fae over the next three books was taking away from that for me.
There was an obvious lack of focus/compassion for other characters who weren’t Bastien and Celine. I honestly really loved the characters of Pippa and Arjun, especially within the 3rd book and it was so disappointing to see them being pushed to the side. The beginning was promising, as we got their POVs and we saw Pippa being turned into a werewolf and the turmoil of Arjun after he believed he lost her, and then literally nothing after that. They reunite and that’s it??? We could’ve gotten so much more on Pippa’s adjustment to the change. She literally becomes a werewolf and is like ok this is my life now.
And there is absolutely no clarification on what happens to the others at the end. What happened to Odette, Madeline and Hortense, Haroun???? They were major players throughout the whole series and we are given absolutely nothing. And the way Arjun and Jae were killed off was almost disrespectful!!! I literally didn’t even comprehend they had died and had to go back and read it again! And once again, very little focus on Pippa after that. All we are told is that she wont speak to Celine for now.
So yeah this was extremely disappointing. If this wasn’t the conclusion, it wouldnt be so bad, but it is and it was a very horrible way to end such a beautiful and promising concept that the first three books upheld :((
