It’s crazy to me how the first book could be so good… only to end in a way that didn’t make sense, could have been done in such a different way and still have some heartache to it. It’s like plot and characters were just thrown to the side. And I was hoping and praying that things would turn for the better… as much as I’ve liked this author’s other books, she dropped the ball with this one. And it’s so disappointing cause the previous books were great!

Fitting name for this book as pretty much all the characters were legitimately ruined by the end.

i remember being intrigued by the first book in this series: the characters, the setting of New Orleans, and their romance. there was potential there to tell a wonderful story. however, this concluding book left so much to be desired. the character choices seemed so far removed from anything they would have done before. and not in a growth way. celine especially seemed to undergo a character regression and it was incredibly frustrating to witness. New Orleans, which was so much a part of the other books, barely made an appearance in this final chapter. and i felt the story really suffered for it. finally, their romance was non-existent in this book. the stage had been set in the preceding books to expect their love story to continue. instead it was unceremoniously and inexplicably snuffed out. “the ruined” is an apt title: as this book took everything enjoyable and intrinsic about the series up to this point and thoroughly ruined it. truly baffling and very disappointing.

I was never as invested in this series as I was her duologies. But I do think this should have been one. I liked the book about Pippa and Arjun, but I'm not sure I would have, had I known where this was going to end. I'm not really sure what this book was trying to achieve, but it did not do it.

I don’t know. I found myself annoyed with the characters with this one
