we as human beings have no business up on that damn mountain. GET DOWN.
This is an absolutely fascinating memoir. You feel so invested in the individuals you’re introduced to and you can really feel the author’s pain as he details his experience.
What makes it stand out all the more is that the author seems to have had a broad audience in mind, because you never get lost in the technicalities of mountaineering. His language on the subject is never so complex that you aren’t sure what’s going on. And this way, you really can stay lost in the story-telling.

This book was excellent. Everest is the ultimate challenge, and reading about those who gave their lives to conquer it is both inspiring and deeply tragic. This journey illustrates how a few seemingly small mistakes can turn a hopeful expedition into a deadly ordeal. The drive to accomplish a monumental feat can override all senses, logic, and caution. Krakauer’s reflections on the human condition (especially in the face of adversity and the pursuit of higher goals) are poignant and powerful. Highly recommend.
I wish I could find something to say that even remotely encompasses the experience of reading Into Thin Air. Even after finishing it, this book has been walking around in my proverbial pocket for weeks. Some of the events of this story are so breathtakingly sad and frustrating and hopeless, and yet I came away with a bubble of awe in my chest for how people try to do right by each other in impossible circumstances. It’s intoxicating to have a glimpse into the minds of the men and women who set their sights on the tallest mountains in the world.

May be it was a lot of characters, but, I couldn't focus much on my entire read. I felt like I just skimmed it. It certainly wasn't the case with Into the Wild. I am, for now, done with Jon Krakauer.
