Probably better as a book than an audio book since I had a hard time keeping track of everyone

this book made me go down a mount everest rabbit hole LOL. written beautifully, jon krakauer vividly re-tells the unfolding of numerous tragedies on mount everest. my jaw was on the floor while listening to the audiobook. i couldn’t stop tuning into how each climbers’ roles intersected to bring about imminent death or a surprising miracle of survival; how each selfless act either saved a life or caused a death.

it was insane how things played out (and all at the same time!!) to paint a such a historical tragedy. slow to start, but picks up quite fast halfway through.

I really enjoy Krakauer’a style of writing. He is a wonderful storyteller! This book gets pretty intense in the last 1/3 of the book and it definitely pulls you into the event. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys adventure and non-fiction!

A ho hum first 2/3 before a riveting - in the darkest and saddest sense - conclusion. Yet the saddest part of all come after the final pages, in the Epilogue and Postscript.

Read as an audiobook! This was good, a tragic and totally avoidable fate. I will never understand the ego of people that do these “thrill-seeking” activities (i.e. mountain climbing, cave diving, etc.) because Jon’s description of what it was like on the summit of Everest sounds like a literal nightmare. It’s impossible to know exactly what happened on that trip and what could’ve been done better for those that lost their lives, but I felt like this was well-written and dived deeper into each of the team members.
