So...after all of the hype about this book I was fairly disappointed. I expected a Great and Terrible Beauty type novel, but this just was not it. It fell flat in so many places, and was only a novel to try and sell the second one.
Sadly, months after I have read the novel, because I could barley sum up my disappointment and disgust with it, I can barley remember the plot.
Young Adults and kids might enjoy it, but I just was not impressed.

I enjoyed this -- although I would have appreciated more background/interaction between the sisters. I will definitely be reading the next in the series though!

It wasn't as bad as I expected :)

I liked the concept, but it was too slow, and they kept going over the same 3 pieces of information. Yes this is what you do in real life but it's boring to read about. So the majority of the book is going, we don't know anything but A, B, and C so what should we do? Repeat the list and try to look for another clue. And it's a series. Too many pages for not enough action. I'm curious to read the next book to find out more about the ending, but not enough to put it anywhere on my list but as an oh well I guess I need a book to read while I'm waiting.

Since my mother is a twin, and they both battle one another constantly, I was intrigued by the premise. Although I don't usually like to read characters from early than the 20th-century, I decided to give it a chance. In fact, the time frame made me feel the constraints that prevented the main character, Lia from going where she pleased.

Upon her father's death, a mysterious mark appears on her wrist. It takes Lia time to realize she and her twin are connected to an ancient prophecy that pits one against the other. While there were slow parts, a lot of thinking and waiting for things to happen, I got swept up in the mystery, especially about midway through the book.

I would've liked to see the twins' relationship flushed out more. They were supposed to be close at one time but no memory is given to show their former bond. A few flashbacks would've done the trick. Without them, Alice lacked dimension. I also would've liked more of an explanation of how Lia has the confidence and knowledge to use magic for the first time in a pretty dire situation. In fact, exploration of the magic would've made the book even better.

But I'm invested enough that I'll read book 2.

The book met my expectations. I got it at the dollar tree, so I didn't really expect it to be remarkable. Still, the ending almost made me want to read its sequel...but I probably won't. Most of it was boring, just a bunch of talking and going to places to talk some more, up until the last few chapters when things actually started happening. I did skim through some of the ending because I already knew how it would end.

Boooooooooooooooooring

Just finished reading this book. Read my review on my blog...if you want. http://robertsfamilyyouputthehappyinmyness.blogspot.com/2010/05/recent-read.html

The book follows the story of an ancient Celtic legend claiming Satan and those fallen and trapped in the other worlds will try to reemerge and end the world as we know it. What keeps them at bay? The sisters and the prophecy that's been written about them.

In the beginning, I feel like the author was grasping straws. I couldn't make heads or tails of anything and I was really put off. About midway, the story really picked up and I couldn't stop reading - I was very anxious to see where this was going and then it stopped. It just stopped. So, I'm left feeling like the author kind of wussed out. I see it's a series and I understand the story continues, but, really? She basically writes "To be continued" when the story is (finally) getting really good.

Will I read the next one? Of course; I need to see where this goes. I would suggest you not read this unless you want to read more than one book - because not too much happens in this one.
