I generally enjoyed this book. I thought it was very appropriate for a J level audience. For me I thought the way the plot worked out was a little strange. The author was very purposely leaving just 1 major thing left unfinishedb, which I assume would be the next book. My biggest issue with the book was that the author didn't seem to give kids any credit. Everything was explained. There were no twists or surprises because she had to tell you first. Even books for kids can have a surprise.

It was okay, definitely for younger readers though. I might have enjoyed it more had I not been spoiled by the Harry Potter books.
Charlie Bone has a weird family, but it turns out that some of their weirdness stems from the fact that they are magical. While he never thought he had a magical bone in his body, Charlie finds out that he has the power to magically interact with pictures. The matriarch of the Bone family forces Charlie to attend the magical Bloor Academy, where Charlie makes new friends and gets into fun hi-jinks.
This is a perfect readalike to Harry Potter. It is fun and funny. It provides a unique alternative in the boy wizard world.

Quite easy to read, but still it was an interesting story. I would like to see it adapted into a movie.
Fast paced, fun story. Somewhat predictable but it's written for children so you can't fault it too much for that. Certainly interested in it enough to keep reading the series.
