This started out as a poor man's Harry Potter for me -- kid with special powers goes to a special school -- but I ended up liking it much more. Perfect for readers maybe not advanced enough for Harry Potter.
Rereading after about 20 years and still find this story so chilling. Eventhough when I was a child it seemed more complicated and mysterious, I thoroughly enjoyed this read! I will definitely give this to my kid as a small welcome to the world of wonders.
