It was a fine book. Heavy religious themes, specifically Catholic. I'm not sure I quite understood the point of the book or what was happening. I think it would be more enjoyable for someone who is or previously was a member of an organized religion especially if they were/are Catholic or another branch of Christianity

Dark story and a lot of Catholic themes, but it kept me engaged and came to a satisfying ending. I got the feeling that it was kind of like a poor man’s John Irving book, if that makes sense.

In this story, we follow Sam Hill who has a genetic condition that causes him to have red eyes. His mother believes he’s been made to do extraordinary things, but the rest of society sees him as anything but “other”. He’s continuously looked down upon and bullied for his differences.

This was such an interesting and well written story. The characters and situations were so realistic, I thought it might have been a memoir. I loved the friendships that Sam cultivated with Ernie & Mickie, who were seen as outcasts too.

𝔸𝕦𝕕𝕚𝕠𝕓𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤: The author himself narrated this book and did an amazing job with it. He really brought Sam and his story to life.
