Amazing!!! Loved it as much as the first two series with Daine and Alanna. Tamora Pierce has done it again with Keladry. Same type of heroin yet as different as can be from Daine and Alanna. I love that she always brings past characters back into her newer books. Awesome!

4.5 stars. I spent the mid section of this book hungering for some action, and boy did the last 100 or so pages deliver; what a triumphant end. I loved pretty much everything that happened in the book, despite some parts feeling like they dragged on a bit. Raoul is a fantastic character and mentor, and Kel's interactions with female characters such as Buri and the Yamani ladies were wonderful to see. I also loved how heavily focused this book was on strategy and learning how to command, and how the writing is steady, clear and thorough, just like Kel. I'm so excited to re-live the final book now, after the glimpse of what our heroine will be up against!

On a side note, can I also just say that I absolutely ADORE the cover art of these editions? I wish more books used this style of full bleed illustration in these rich, natural colours - they are so stunning and very much fit the 'grounded' tone of Kel's story.

My favorite entry to the series

So beautifully written, you really feel like you are there, living the life of a squire. No longer confined to the palace, we get to explore the world of Tortall and the different towns and villages. We get to go on the progress and experience tournaments and jousting.

All the while still addressing discrimination and hitting on some important topics.

Then slowly transitioning into a brewing war and threats from across the border.

Love this series, love these characters, love this book.
