I'll get to the point: THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!
You name it and this book has it - from compelling characters to humour and everything imaginable in between. (The humour really took me by surprise. I laughed out loud during - there's a not so nice old woman - and after some of the most intense scenes.)
I can't wait to get more into this series.
I don't know if the author is reading this but THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS BOOK. I enjoyed every minute and it was the best distraction during the quarantine (it was actually a quarantine-Easter gift).

I actually liked the other side of the seven book series a little more, but the whole omnibus is excellent.
Overall I was thoroughly entertained by this book. The story's pacing was good, and the fight scenes were realistic.
But the romance(instalove) throughout was something that annoyed me every time it was brought up. I was particularly annoyed by hand holding being compared to losing her virginity. Really?Really? I've read YA with realistic relationship building and it comes off a lot better to the reader.
The MC was annoying at times because she would explain why she shouldn't do what she was doing as she did it. I thought that her thinking would change, some of her behavior, but I was wrong. But she was tough and took care of herself, which I appreciated instead of a weak heroin that gets taken care of. I love Dystopian novels and this world is one I want to learn more about. But I may or may not read the sequel. This was good but nothing wowed me enough to recommend. I liked Cole and Tawni more than the MC, the MC just came off as very aloof to me.

“Have human lives become like a tube of toothpaste? Something to be used up and thrown away? At first the tube seems so big, so full of life. But after just a few uses it becomes dented and lumpy—already life is ebbing away from it—and it’s only a matter of time before the final bit is squeezed out, rendering it an empty vessel, good for nothing." - David Estes, The Moon Dwellers
I was about to crack open the final installment of what I thought was the end to this series, but the author warned against it. Instead, he recommended readers read all books in the series, including, the main and sister series.
So, that is what I am doing.
I’m not a big series kind of gal, I often feel it’s just a ploy to sell more books. So I grumbled a bit when I realized what I thought was a 4 part series, turned out to be 7.
In a huff, I will admit that Estes has kept my interest for 4 books now. I have 2 1/2 to go, in order to complete this series. I am finding that the world he has created, a dysfunctional Earth that I don’t recognize, is worth every extra hour I have invested.
I have my favorites from the series, like we all do. The Moon Dwellers is so far my favorite, whereas Fire Country comes in second.
This is such a unique dystopian tale— different than any of the others I have read so far. Estes has created multiple cultures and dialects for his characters and each one is colorful and diverse. It’s a young adult epic.
I give Estes a shiny star for his character creation because I acutely feel their personalities. I feel like I know them intimately. Estes knows how to create a character with deep thoughts, conflicted feelings, and humor. They are real to me, not some figment of imagination. I can feel the blood pumping through them.
My only complaint, which I fear is a growing one with authors and editors in today’s world is the overuse of the punctuation mark, Mr. Colon. It was incredibly overused and I kept wishing that it would just go away. It was corrupting an almost perfect reading experience for me.
If you are looking for a story that breathes life and personality, a tale that inspires the wounded and the marginalized, that shows what we can accomplish when we let go of superficial comfort and safety, then this is the story for you.
It is a tale of brave heroes and heroines, strong female role models and heart stopping action and attraction. Take a chance and discover the magic of Estes.

I was really surprised at just how much I enjoyed this book. It wasn't quite what I expected from the title -- I thought the characters would literally live on the moon -- but I wasn't disappointed with the underground living system devised following the Earth's above-ground destruction. That said, I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Spoiler
I did think that having an attraction as motivation wasn't ideal, especially since Adele and Tristan hadn't met, but I guess it worked out. If they'd gotten together any sooner, I would have probably been annoyed, but it wasn't by any means easy for them. I liked that Tristan didn't escape from his "vacation" without consequences, and I also liked that he wasn't invincible. I thought it was a little too predictable for Adele to go straight to the orphanage for Elsey. She was sure to get caught because it's the obvious move for her, but I guess it says something about her character that she's willing to risk her safety and the success of her plan to save her sister. I wish it had taken a little more effort to get to saving her father, though. I know they fought people and survived bombings to get there, but it just seemed like there weren't many obstacles and everything worked out a little too nicely.
If I could make this a 4.5 stars I would. I LOVED this book. I loved everything about it! Adele is strong, yet complex, and I can appreciate the self discoveries she makes throughout the story . Tristan is... well Tristan is hot... but aside from that he is such a great balance to Adele and I can't wait to find out more about him and his past. The concept is so great and while it's not new, Mr. Estes really took it and made it his own. There was not a single dull moment and I was hooked from the beginning. I'm dying to read the next one and can't wait to snatch it up when it comes out!
OK, so I started reading this series with Fire Country, Book 1 of the sister saga to this series. What a difference a year makes!
I enjoyed the story mostly. I'm not a romance fan, not that I can't appreciate a good story, but romance tends to get a little old for me. Does she like me, his hand grazed mine and my heart skipped a beat..... Ugh, I get it! This one wasn't too terrible, but it did seem to drag on a little much for me in a few places. The writing was also choppier than Fire Country. I can only assume this is just due to progression and improvement with writing over time. Fire Country was so natural, even more impressive really since it was written in their own "language"; which I absolutely loved! Again, I noticed the difference in fluidity, but it wasn't enough to disrupt the story. AND, neither of those factors were enough to make me stop reading the book.
Here's what I DID like. I liked the mystery and intrigue. What is the deal with the pain thing? I hope we get more into that in later books. What is going on with the rebellion? I really hope we hear more about that! How does this tie in to the other series, I know we'll get to that! I hope to see Tristan confront his dad, I hope to learn more about the history of all the worlds!
My favorite thing though by far continues to be the authors ability to weave the story. He builds plots and suspense masterfully. It reminds me of a symphony, were you begin with the individual sections and then they slowly build and blend and lead you to an incredible musical experience; that is how I would describe these books. I've already started reading the sequel The Star Dwellers so I'll stop before I get them confused. In all, great start to a series I'm already incredibly addicted to. I am already worried about what I'll do when it ends.......

oh.my.freaking.gosh. I loveeeeeeed this book!!! This is exactly the type of book I love to read and it was different than the others I have read!
5 stars David!
This book made me feel the pain Adele and Tristian had to go through and it even made me laugh and then cry(when a certain character died). I will definitely be adding this book to my list of favorites! I loved the writing style, it made it so easy to get sucked in quickly. One of the things with me is that it has to capture my attention right away in order for me to continue reading it. This book totally did that and makes me a big fan of David Estes!
This book was given to me for free in exchange for a review and its totally worth it! I hope I did okay with the review David and thank you!

I pretty much enjoyed this book.(five stars).
I have seen many comparing it with suzanne collins' hunger games. But i felt the moon dwellers are in someway better than hunger games.
Set up in a post apocalyptic world, where the socity is split up into three realms,(star, moon, and sun) The moon dwellers tell the story of the teenage girl adele and her friends. Adele's family has been arrested by the enforcers and her family is all splited up. With help of her friends tawni and cole adele escapes the the 'pen' and go for finding her lost family members.
When tristan, son of the presidint of sun dwellers learns that he can't live without the pretty young moon dweller girl who he had found being inside pen, he and his friend roc go searching for her. Are the destinied to meet up?
The moon dwellers is a real page-turner packed with thundorus action wonderful adventures, sorrowful partings and happy reunions.
With his amazing skills in charector sketching and nice way of story-telling, the author is not far away from what suzanne collins and cassandra clare are in YA fiction.
