How do you end a book like that?! And then the next one doesn't come out until next summer. Oh my god. I am unwell. For some reason, I thought The Grandest Game was going to be a duology so imagine my surprise as the pages left to read keep getting smaller and smaller and more and more insane things are happening. I realistically knew there had to be another book with about 75 pages left in this one. I really should have just looked online.
We're back at it again with another Jennifer Lynn Barnes book. At this point, this author basically has a shelf to herself in my library. These books are just so readable. Everything flows really well and I love these characters so much. (How could I not after reading seven books surrounding them?) One of the things I really missed in book one was most of the main characters from the original series and this one has already made up for that for me. I know that this next book is also going to hit the spot with that. I even started to really love our new characters from this trilogy. I feel for Lyra in a way that is just so bone deep. She's gone through so much and then Grayson Hawthorne is shoved in her face. I'm just dying to see how everything gets wrapped up in the next book. Also, Jameson needs...well, a lot of things after the way the book ended, but I need to see Jameson like that more. Dial him up to 20. I'm here for it.
I found that some of the more minor details from the previous books were hard to recall when the book made references back to them. It might be an issue with my memory. Or just that I haven't reread the entirety of The Inheritance Games in a while. But I wish there had been a way to give a little more detail when making references without it feeling spoonfed. I also think that how I feel about the series overall is really going to depend on how this wraps up. If it gets to be a little too much at the end then it'll probably bring this series as a whole down a little for me. But I'm hoping that we get something similar to this book with the next one. Obviously with a little more drama, but I'd love if we still managed to hold on to these characters and their emotions without diving into the Villains Twirling Mustaches territory.
Overall, it's Jennifer Lynn Barnes and it's the world of The Inheritance Games so there can really be no wrong. I love the world, I love the puzzles, and the characters are just such a wonderful foundation.

i think the thing about these books is that i just adore the cast so much i enjoy reading about whatever happens anyway. i LOVE gigi to death and i looked forward the most to reading her chapters, unfortunately hers were the most short π i hope she and slate meet again! and i liked reading rohan's pov as well. i like that savannah doesn't have a pov because it keeps her more mysterious. so far, my favorites in this series have been her and gigi. i love both their contrasting personalities. rohan was a lot more interesting to me in this book compared to the first. and i really wanted to like lyra but her and grayson's chapters were the most boring ππ i have to admit though that their relationship is a lot sweeter in this book and feels very genuine and cute. like some moments genuinely made me feel all warm inside. love grayson hawthorne to death but gigi, savannah and rohan are a lot more interesting right now. also, i have to say that plot wise, things do get pretty confusing. idk if it's because i forget things due to the fact i have to wait for long periods of time for the next book to come out but each time they're talking about alice hawthorne or brady's sponsor or eve or whatnot i just have floating question marks above my head. feels like it's a lot at once. and also i can't help but feel that the author is dragging this story a little. i meannn i don't mind because i look forward to reading about my precious gigi again, but it just sort of feels that way. that ending was definitely interesting. and jamie punching gray? jameson look at me baby this isn't you π₯Ίπ₯Ί also on an unrelated note, why were there so many implications that savannah and rohan got freaky??? π€¨π€¨ like if ur going to edge me like that so often then give me a lil scene jennifer lynn barnes ππ anyway i look forward to the third book!!!
