I'm so pleased that I've found a series similar to Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache.  Since this book was published first, Inspector Gamache may have resembled Commissario Brunetti.  I love a thoughtful detective and learning about the culture of a city and country, Venice, Italy.

Thanks Davina for this book gift. a great story and interesting characters. Can’t wait for the next one!

This was the second or third time I’ve tried reading this book; for some reason I just couldn’t get into it before. I liked it this time, a solid 4-star read

Got a bit bored with this book. Far too much description and the outcome was obvious from early on.

Didn’t expect to enjoy it this much, tbh! I think my reading the plot summary ahead of time helped synthesize clues as they were coming in. Audiobook reader did some great Italian accents.

I had to check when this book was published because it felt like it should have been the 70s or 80s (it was 2015). A lot of casual xenophobia and homophobia (which to be fair, was part of the plot). It just felt dated..
