I enjoyed this mystery, it felt a bit fresh from my American perspective and I had fun getting glimpses into the life and neighborhood of a Venetian.
Abgesehen vom Vorhersehbaren und sonstigen Mängeln möchte ich den inflationären und irgendwie auch falschen Gebrauch des Wortes "grunzen" kritisieren.

Enjoyed it because it took place in Italy. I kind of figured out the ending before it was revealed.
A suicide, not a murder

I want to give it 3.5 stars. Really loved getting to know the comisario and I wish it took place in Spain so I'd better appreciate how much Leon loves the city it's set in. Might keep reading these.

Standard detective-based whodunit, except full of Italian quirks by someone who's clearly lived there. Permesso.
This was quite enjoyable, but not my favorite of the various mystery authors and series I've read lately (mostly [a:Agatha Christie|123715|Agatha Christie|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1589991473p2/123715.jpg], [a:Louise Penny|194243|Louise Penny|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1591027995p2/194243.jpg], [a:Kate Atkinson|10015|Kate Atkinson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1363801830p2/10015.jpg], and [a:Robert Galbraith|383606|Robert Galbraith|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/m_50x66-82093808bca726cb3249a493fbd3bd0f.png]. Among those, I think Donna Leon is most similar to Christie on a one-book basis... I love Christie, but the stories are often a bit shallow, with not much development of the characters. It's only over many books that you really get to know Marple and Poirot, for instance. This book felt very similar to that kind of style. I'll certainly read more by Leon, but this didn't pull me in and invest me in the characters the way that books from Louise Penny or Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series always do.
