i knew from the first page that seiji appears on that he was going to remind me of kevin day and this volume just exemplified that even further. and on that note that’s my son who i’ve adopted. the first son to ever mother if you will.
i’m trying to work out all the romantic pairings this early on and i desperately want to know if i’m right but i’m not searching. i WILL see this through authentically.

The story continue the wonderful pacing of the main protagonist and his potential rival, while also displaying the emotions of everyone within the storyline.
My first review of Volume One was overwhelmingly positive, and there's no change here. Characters continue to grow, Nicholas continues to grow as a person, and even loosens up a bit which creates some pretty hilarious exchanges between him and his roomate/nemesis/future lover(?) Seiji. Seiji himself starts to show some cracks in his armour, becoming almost human. A few of the other characters introduced in the first volume are given some screen time too, fleshing them out.
The most interesting aspect for me were the matches. Normally I find sport fairly tedious, it's just not for me, but the way these challenge matches are set up, it's really fascinating to see which characters are going to win or lose and why. I find it really compelling and it's weird to feel that way about a sport, and more specifically about a sport I know nothing about.
The artwork continues to be great, I like the mix of the more realistic/serious styles and cartoony/chibi depending on what's happening at the time in the story.
But once again the story is way too short. Four issues? Come on, just as I'm getting into the story it's over. That's my only real criticism, everything else is awesome.

Do you like sports drama, filled with tension between rivals, angst, and ample shipping? If yes, Fence is for you.
Basically all my thoughts from volume 1 continued into this volume; however, I grew more invested in the characters and fencing as I learned more about it.
