i needed a book that would completely whisk me away from my own reality. this book mostly did it. it was fast paced and a page turner. plus it took place in boston, which is always neat.

Gripping thriller about the family and detectives searching for a kidnapped little girl. Very interesting take on some moral dilemmas. Will now have to see the movie!
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

Bought it for my brother and read ot when he gave it back. I'm not a huge Lehane fan but this might be his best.

A quick read but the subject matter which involves children is always depressing. The suspense was quite good throughout but I was a little disappointed by the ending.

This is the first time I’ve ever read a book after seeing the movie. I have to say, it’s a really unique experience. I thought knowing twists and turns would take away from enjoying it all unravel, but I was wrong. This series just keeps on getting better and better. Can’t wait to finish the last two.

This book was really good. The mystery was tight and the ending makes you think. I enjoy the grittiness of Lehane but I think there is also a very deep and thoughtful streak in his books.

I love leHane's writing. I think this is my favorite so far : )

I don't know why I put myself through this. Should have known the genre is little more than propaganda. A book where the good guys are corrupt police, child kidnappers and local Boston Mafia, and the bad guy is a single mom (insert facepalm)

This was my second time reading this book- just as emotional and disturbing as I remember...
