Incredible concept. Important things to say. Execution wasn’t great for me though; I feel like the story went strange places, and the awkward worldbuilding took the forefront and muddled up the message of the book.

I am DNFing this book most of the way through. I thought this book was something different than what it is. I just was really bored most of the way through. It is very short, and I am just not into it.

The bones and outline of this story are phenomenal. It’s starts off being a mermaid version of The Giver in a way and then takes a turn into the interesting origin of this universe’s mermaids. The problem I had is that in my opinion it was a very boring story or was told in a very boring way. That could be because this book wasn’t meant for me. I was not the intended audience.

A really interesting premise, but the writing is awkward. Maybe if this was a full-length novel it would've worked out better? I'm not sure.
