Rounding this up to 4 stars from my personal rating of 3.5.

This book's strength lies in the central plot continued from the first book. It's mysterious, tense, and at times shocking. The world's history is rich and evolving in a really interesting way.

It's weakness for me lies in the pacing. The book moves quick. Multiple times I was surprised to be done with a scene. It brings you right to the beginning of excitement and then cuts to black, coming back in after it's resolved. Some of the plot twists feel like they came out of nowhere.

I enjoyed the continuation of this series and I want to see how it goes, I just may be willing to wait a while.

This book was a slog. Under normal circumstances I would have DNF'd, but since I enjoyed book one I forced myself to finish. The plot was literally moving SLOWER than a snail. Too much unneccessary jargon and WAY too much miscommunication between the MCs. Some of the side character POVs were also too chaotic and ridiculous and half the time added nothing to the plot, but at least were more fast paced and interesting than the bulk of the book. The worldbuilding still is incredibly confusing - especially when it comes to the history of how Earthens came to the planet and their relationship with the other species on the planet. It is still up in the air for me on whether or not I'll read book three when it comes out. I may wait on others reviews before I decide.
